Our conductors

This season, the Tallinn Chamber Choir is conducted by Aivar Leschchinsky, the assistant conductors are Mariell Aren and Pärtel Toompere.  

Aivar Leschchinsky (b. 1958) graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory in 1981 where he studied choral conducting under the hand of the legendary composer and conductor Arvo Ratassepp. From 1991 to 1995, he taught choral conducting at the Tallinn Pedagogical University. He conducted the mixed choir „Noorus“ at 1992-1994 and from 1994-2002 he was the head conductor of Tallinn Chamber Choir and after a season abroad resumed the position. A. Leschchinsky was one of the conductors of the 1999 Estonian Song Festival and in 1999-2000 he conducted the Song Festival of Nordic and Baltic countries in Skien, Norway.  

Aivar Leschchinsky has also conducted the Tallinn University Chamber Choir in 2003-2008 and the girls’ choir „Leelo“ in 2006-2008. In 2004, Aivar Leschchinsky was given the mentor status by the Estonian Choral Association and Association of Estonian Choral Conductors and he was honoured the highest choral conductor’s vocational category V. Leschchinsky has repeatedly been elected a member of the Board of Estonian Chamber Choirs Union and he has held the position of musical director of the union. In 2010-2013, Leschchinsky was the head of the music department of the Estonian Choral Association.  

In addition to Tallinn Chamber Choir, Aivar Leschchinsky is currently the conductor of Tallinn Technical University Academic Women’s Choir and the Railway Culture Society choir. The choirs conducted by Aivar Leschchinsky have repeatedly taken part in international choir competitions and festivals and have often won awards.
